Nine-Element Plans

What is watershed planning?

Identifying and prioritizing water quality resource concerns through the development of an EPA-approved nine-element plan not only gives us a roadmap for water quality improvement, but it also opens the door to additional funding opportunities including EPA’s 319 grants to help cover the cost of implementing key practices throughout the watershed.

Paulding SWCD contracted with Civil & Environmental Consultants on a community-wide effort to identify and prioritize water quality and conservation needs in the Flatrock Creek watershed of the Auglaize River.

We are particularly interested in identifying both point and nonpoint pollution sources, conservation concerns, critical areas, etc. By identifying these resource concerns and priorities, we were able to develop a 9-element plan to identify and prioritize necessary steps to improve the water quality of the Flatrock Creek watershed, which will have positive impacts downstream in the Auglaize River, and all the way to Lake Erie.
