5th Grade Field Day
5th Grade Field Day is an annual county wide educational program held at the Black Swamp Nature Center & Paulding County Fairgrounds. Students get the opportunity to learn and explore the many different aspects of conservation and agricultural topics through hands-on learning experiences.
Students visit eight different sessions throughout this daylong event. The topics include Soil Health, Forestry, Water Quality, Livestock Management, and Wildlife.
The presenters for each session are specialists in their field bringing additional credibility to this educational field day.
Many volunteers are utilized to help the day run smoothly by assisting in lunch preparation and guiding students to their station rotation.
Our Goals
The goals of this event are to educate our youth about conservation topics and enrich their knowledge through hands-on learning experiences. This event is to give each student the opportunity to learn about agricultural and conservation topics in the natural setting of the Black Swamp Nature Center as well as the Paulding County Fairgrounds.
Each student receives a 5th Grade Field Day t-shirt and drawstring bag for participating in this special event.
Over 300 students attend the event each year. Students are divided into groups where they will start their rotation of the eight different sessions. Students will be provided lunch to include a meal featuring local products, if adequate funding is able to be secured.

This large event wouldn’t be possible without sponsorship from businesses and individuals in the community. Sponsorship funds will be used to cover the costs associated with this large event which include presenter refreshments, cost of lunches such as food and supplies, mileage for presenters, and t-shirts and drawstring bags for all presenters, students and volunteers.
Each t-shirt will have the sponsor’s name on the back. This is a great way to promote and advertise your business or organization.
At the conclusion of the day, there are group photos taken of each school and students will sign thank you cards for each sponsor as the students are very grateful for your support too!
